Memphis, Tn - The University of Memphis Baseball program received a letter of intent from Evangelical Christian School standout Bill Edwards on Monday.

Edwards is a gifted athlete who was selected as a finalist for the Best of the Preps in 1999 for both baseball and football. In 1999, Edwards was named all-region in baseball and all-state in football. He currently holds every receiving record for ECS football and last season batted .413 with two home runs in baseball.

Edwards is a pitcher and shortstop for the ECS baseball team, and this year he holds a 3-2 record on the mound with an ERA of 1.70 and 40 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched. He is also batting .500 with five home runs on the season.

"We are extremely happy to sign another blue-chip local prospect," says Memphis head baseball coach Jeff Hopkins. "Bill is a top pitching prospect who will be drafted by the professional ranks. With his signing, and the signing of local stars Michael Lewis and Kyle Scott, we've really tapped into the local talent."
