RHP Jon Reed improved to 5-1 last Saturday, allowing two runs, none earned, and five hits while striking out six batters and walking one. Reed threw seven innings in Memphis' 6-4 win against Alcorn State.

LHP Colin Lee recorded a career-high five strikeouts in a 13-3 Memphis win last Sunday over Alcorn State. Lee allowed three runs on nine hits in 5.0 IP. 

AROUND THE HORN

• Ironman SS Ethan Gross has started in a program-record 196 consecutive games.   
• Memphis and USF meet for the first time since 2005 with the Bulls holding an 18-12 advantage in the series dating back to 1996.  
• The Tigers have used 24 different lineups this season, based on defensive alignment.  
• The Tigers have been outscored 54-25 after the seventh inning this season.

SCOUTING THE BULLS

• USF enters the weekend with a 22-18 record on the campaign and an 8-7 mark in league play.  
• The Bulls hit .267 on the season with 54 doubles, nine triples and eight home runs for 180 RBI on 209 runs scored.  
• The Bulls have 19 stolen bases in 26 attempts and sport a .964 fielding percentage.  
• Kyle Teaf leads the club hitting .336 while Luke Maglich has two home runs and 26 RBI.  
• On the mound, USF sports a 3.01 ERA with 235 strikeouts against 142 walks in 353 1/3 innings. Opponents hit .249 against with 71 extra-base hits.

THE SERIES

• Memphis and USF meet for the first time since 2005 this weekend in Tampa.  
• The Bulls hold an 18-12 advantage in the series that dates back to 1996.  
• The Tigers are 6-9 in the series on the road.

IT ONLY TAKES ONE

• Games decided by one run this season have been a common theme as the Tigers have seen 14 such outings.  
• Tuesday’s loss to Vanderbilt dropped the U of M to 7-7 in one-run games.  
• The 2-1 loss Tuesday was the 10th one-run decision in which Memphis scored three or fewer runs and dropped the Tigers record to 7-3 in that situation.

LATE INNING WOES

• The late innings have hurt the Tigers this season as Memphis has been outscored 54-25 after the seventh inning.  
• Opponents have outscored the Tigers 35-12 in the eighth inning alone, 22-8 since March 25.  
• Since playing Arkansas State on March 25, Memphis has a deficit of 32-12 after the seventh inning.  
• The Tigers foes are hitting .305 in the eighth inning this season with 51 hits and Memphis pitchers carry a 5.79 ERA in the inning allowing 35 earned runs and 10 doubles.

SEVENTH INNING KEY

• The Tigers sport a 20-3 record when leading after the seventh inning and have outscored their opponents 36-20 in the frame.  
• When the Tigers are trailing after seven innings the record sits at 1-14 while a tie after seven has the Tigers record at 1-3.

ZAC(H)'S ON THE POND

• In Saturday’s game against Alcorn State, the Tigers had a rare situation with the bases loaded.  
• Pinchrunner Zac Carter stood on third, Zach Schritenthal was on second and Zach Willis had walked to load the bases.   
• The “Zach Attack” goes further with the addition of first base coach Zach Clark.

• The Tigers got off to a hot start at 11-1, but have won back-to-back games just twice since.  
• Since the hot start, the Tigers have four, three-game losing streaks.

BACK TO LEAGUE PLAY

• Since having a bye weekend during league play for the first time in 2008, Memphis has posted a 2-3 record in the series following the non-conference weekend.  
• Last year, Memphis’ bye week fell in the final weekend of the regular season.  
• The Tigers have won their last two series following a bye weekend, sweeping Houston in 2012 and taking two of three against Southern Miss in 2011.  
• Prior to that, the Tigers went 1-2 at Southern Miss (2010), 1-2 against Houston (2009) and 0-2 against Tulane (2008).

APPEARANCE RECORD?

• Freshman RHP Nolan Blackwood is on pace to set the single-season record for appearances.  
• The freshman arm has appeared in 23 games, putting him sixth in the single-season ranks.  
Jonathan Van Eaton holds the single-season record after making 30 appearances in 2012.

WALLINGFORD CHASES TOP ERA

• Junior southpaw Caleb Wallingford has taken over as the ace of the Tigers pitching staff and is set for his seventh Friday night start at USF.  
• With 63 1/3 innings pitched, Wallingford has topped the 60 IP needed to qualify for the single-season ERA record.  
• Wallingford sports a 1.14 ERA in nine starts and 11 appearances.
