@UofMBaseball Southpaw Erik Schoenrock Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week
May 6, 2013
IRVING, Texas – Memphis junior southpaw Erik Schoenrock pitched a complete-game shutout of Marshall to earn Co-Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.
Pitching his third complete game as part of a doubleheader, Schoenrock scattered five hits over nine innings while striking out nine and walking none. The junior southpaw worked out of jams with runners in scoring position in the first, third and ninth innings before the Tigers picked up the win via a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth. Schoenrock’s complete-game shutout was his second of the season and the Tigers collected back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season, a feat not accomplished in the same season since 1976.
Schoenrock has four complete games on the season with two shutouts, both in C-USA action, to his credit. The Collierville, Tenn., native has struck out seven or more batters in four starts in his career. This is Schoenrock’s first career weekly honor and the second for the Tigers this season.
Freshman LHP Blake Fox of Rice shares the pitcher of the week accolade with Schoenrock this week. The Tigers meet Rice on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Houston, Texas on Fox College Sports.
