Fraser Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week for Third Time
May 17, 2010
IRVING, Texas - For the third time this season, University of Memphis senior pitcher Ryan Fraser has been tabbed C-USA's Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today. Fraser earns the award after leading Memphis to a 4-3 win at No. 14 Oklahoma on Friday night.
Fraser put together another quality start, this time it was in his first Friday night start of the season at No. 14 Oklahoma. The right-hander gave up just one run on three hits in six innings to pick up the win for Memphis in a 4-3 victory over the Sooners. Fraser's lone run came on a bases-loaded hit batsman in the third inning and the senior fanned six en route to his seventh win of the year. His seven wins are the most by a Memphis pitcher since 2007, while his 91 strikeouts are sixth on the Tigers' single-season list.
The Cleveland, Tenn., native is just the second Tiger pitcher ever to earn three C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors in a single season. Derek Hankins is the only other Memphis hurler to have reached such an accomplishment, being named the league's Pitcher of the Week three times in the 2004 season.
Fraser and Tigers will return to the action for the final C-USA series of the regular season, in Hattiesburg, Miss., May 20-22.
