Three Tigers Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – Pitchers Dan Langfield and Sam Moll are joined by shortstop Ethan Gross as three University of Memphis baseball players were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team announced by the league office on Monday. Langfield has a 3.69 grade-point average in the sport and leisure management field. The junior pitcher leads C-USA pitchers with 104 strikeouts on the season and he has a 6-6 record on the season. The Somerset, Mass., native has appeared on the Dean’s List and the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in three different semesters. Langfield has posted a grade-point average above 3.0 in each semester he has been on the U of M campus. Moll has a 3.69 grade-point average in accounting. The Lakeland, Tenn., native is a two-year member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and he has appeared on the Dean’s List all three semesters. The sophomore southpaw has a 2.03 ERA in league play this season and pitched a team-best 88.1 innings in 13 starts. Gross rounds out the three Memphis selections as he posted a 3.82 grade-point average in accounting. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native was recognized last year as a member of the Tiger Academic 30 which honors the top-30 student-athletes on the U of M campus. Gross has received the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal in both semesters and appeared on the commissioner’s honor roll as well. The slick-fielding everyday shortstop hits .248 with 17 RBI on the season and he has score 40 runs for the Tigers. Memphis had a league-best three selections on the team and Rice, Tulane and UAB each had two. The three selections to the C-USA All-Academic team tie for the most in program history set back in 2010.
