June 1, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In a continued effort to expose student-athletes to the Tigers to the top talent in college baseball, University of Memphis baseball head coach Daron Schoenrock and staff has placed 21 players on various summer leagues from coast to coast.
Widely considered as the top summer league, five Tigers will travel to the northeast to play in the Cape Cod League. Dan Langfield, likely a top-five round draft pick next week in the MLB Draft, is on the roster for the Brewster Whitecaps. Southpaw's Sam Moll and Erik Schoenrock are also listed on the Whitecaps roster and will be joined by outfielder Derrick Thomas on the squad. Ethan Gross rounds out the Tigers in the Cape Cod League as he will play for the Wareham Gatemen.
The Great Lakes League will also be home to five U of M players with four of the five on the Hamilton Joes roster. Pitchers Jacob Moody and Dylan Toscano along with outfielder Colton Simbeck and infield Tucker Tubbs will suit up for the Joes. Memphis signee Conner Porter rounds out the Great Lakes League players as he will play for the Lima Locos. Three different players will play in the Coastal Plains league as Ford Wilson (Martinsville Mustangs), Bryce Beeler (Gastonia Grizzlies) and Zac Carter (Asheboro Copperheds) make the journey east.
Catcher Keaton Aldridge and pitcher Jonathan Van Eaton will be joined by signee Alex Gunn on the La Crosse Loggers squad of the Northwoods League. JUCO transfer and Memphis signee Jon Reed will oppose the trio in the Northwoods League as a member of the Alexandria Beetles.
Infielder Zach Willis and pitcher Craig Caufield travel to the Midwest to play in the Jayhawk League as members of the Dodge City A's. Catcher Nate Rupiper and outfielder Austin Hatfield travel to the west coast and will play for the Walnut Creek Crawdads in the Far West League.
