MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
Eleven Memphis Baseball players are representing the program well for their respective teams in summer collegiate woodbat leagues across the country.
Shawn Ablett
Ablett is enjoying a strong summer season with the Woodstock River Bandits. The Tiger catcher leads the team with 12 RBI... hits (16)...Ranked in the top-5 on the team in slugging (.308), on-base percentage (.304), total bases (20), hits (17) and runs scored (7), and doubles (3) ...His .262 average is third on the squad...The Van Alstyne, Texas native has started in 16 of 17 games and is perfect in three stolen base attempts...He has produced three RBI three times already...Ablett legged out two doubles to help Woodstock to a 6-5 win over Staunton (June 21).
Brach Davis
Has dominated the completion with a team-leading 1.11 ERA and a .198 opponent's batting average in four starts for the North Adams Steeplecats...Is 1-1...Second on the staff with 31 strikeouts in 24.1 innings...Leads staff with 13 batter struck out looking...Averaging 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings...Was the Opening Day starter and fanned eight and allowed one earned run on six hits in five innings...Followed that outing up with five strikeouts in a six-inning appearance vs. the Holyoke Blue Sox (June 11)...Matched his eight-strikeout performance with eight K's in 6.1 innings vs. Newport (June 17)...Struck out 10 to pick up his first win of the summer in a seven-inning outing vs. Lowell All-Americans (June 25).
Ryan Fraser
Fraser is 2-1, and is second on the staff (behind Brach Davis) with a 1.54 ERA in a staff-high nine relief outings...He has 13 strikeouts and six walks in 11.2 innings of work...Tied for the staff lead with two wins...Picked up a save after working two-thirds innings in a victory over Lowell All-Americans (June 25)...Earned wins over Danbury (June 10) and Keene (June 28).
Robby Graham
Having his most productive season, hitting .256 with six RBI, a home run, double and triple...Tied for the Texas League lead in RBI...Has a 10 hits and a .410 slugging percentage...Fourth on the club with 16 total bases.
Heith Hatfield
Is 1-1 with a solid 2.08 ERA in two starts...Opponents hit just .156 against him...Has 12 strikeouts in 13 innings...Gave up three runs on four hits and struck out a pair in four innings vs. Harrisonburg Turks (June 18)...Posted a 6-0 complete-game shutout victory vs. Rockridge Rapids (June 24)...Fanned 10 and allowed just three hits in the game.
Adam McClain
Hitting .243 with 25 hits, 19 RBI, 18 runs and a team-high 12 doubles for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League... Among the league leaders with three home runs...Leads the Northwoods league in doubles, rankes third in RBI and tied for fifth in runs scored.Had a walk-off grand slam to push the Mallards past St. Cloud 9-5 on June 5...Went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles vs. Brainerd Lake Lunkers (June 28).
Alan Mathis
The Tiger signee leads the Hamilton Joes of the Great Lakes League with a .298 batting average and is second on the squad with 12 total bases...Has banged out 11 hits, including a double...Has started in 10 of the 13 games.
Drew Martinez
As he did with the Tigers in his freshman campaign, Martinez leads the Luray Wranglers in hitting, with a stiff .354 average, 23 hits, 18 runs and eight stolen bases...Ninth in the Valley League in hitting...Average has been as high as .404...Ranks second in the Valley League in runs scored and sixth in hitting...Second on the club with a .417 on-base percentage and third with 27 total bases...Scored four runs vs. Winchester Royals (June 12)...Went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI vs. Rockridge Rapids (June 19).
Brandon Showmar
Redshirt freshman has been solid in his first action since high school...Is 1-1 with a 5.19 ERA for the Luray Wranglers...Has a seven strikeouts and four walks in eight relief outings...Has tossed 8.2 innings.
Michael Wills
A redshirt freshman, Wills has fared well in his first four outings of the summer for the Union City Greyhounds...He is 2-2, with 21 strikeouts and a 2.59 ERA in 33.1 innings pitched...The southpaw fanned nine in six innings in his summer debut...Scattered nine hits and struck out two in seven innings to earn his first win of the summer via a 6-3 decision over the Tradewater Pirates (June 18).
Jacob Wilson
Wilson is fourth on the Luray Wranglers club with a .302 batting average in 16 games...He was named the Valley League Central Division Hitter of the Week on June 15...Third on the squad with 19 hits...Has 10 runs, five RBI and a home run.
