July 24, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis baseball head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Tuesday that Meridian Community College outfielder Tyler Dixon will join the squad for the 2012-13 season. Dixon, a 2011 Collierville High School graduate, helped Meridian Community College to the MISS-LOU Conference (MLJCC) Championship in 2012. Primarily a right-fielder, Dixon hit .230 with four home runs and 20 RBI in 33 games. At Collierville High school, Dixon hit 18 home runs in his two-year career and was a two-time All-State selection. He also garnered Louisville Slugger All-American honors, hitting .460 with nine home runs his senior season.
"I am very excited that Tyler has decided to become a Tiger," Schoenrock said. "He is a great worker, had a wonderful career at Collierville High School and gained valuable experience in his year at Meridian Community College. He has the combination of power and speed and will fit nicely in our plans at Memphis."
