MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis baseball head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Wednesday the addition Cleveland State Community College catcher Damo DeMatteo to the 2013-14 roster.

"Damo is a tremendous defensive catch and throw catcher," Schoenrock said. "Damo will provide depth to an experience catching core. We expect him to compete for a significant role and step in when he is called on."

DeMatteo was a two-year starter for Cleveland State CC, making 24 starts behind the plate and hitting .260 as a freshman. Last season, he started in 14 games before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.

A three-year starter at Soddy Daisy High School, DeMatteo led the Trojans to the state tournament in 2010-11. In the playoffs that season, he hit a team-high .442. He was named all-district and all-region and was among the top in the district with 16 doubles. Selected to the Tennessee All-Star game, DeMatteo threw out 84 percent of the attempted base stealers.
