MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

Gray 030 110 021 - 8 12 2
Blue 010 000 002 - 3 8 1

Freshman Derrick Thomas went 4-for-6 with three doubles and three RBI, while pitchers Brennon Martin and Jonathan Jones combined for nine strikeouts in four innings, as the Gray squad raced to an 8-3 victory over the Blue in Memphis baseball's annual Blue-Gray Game, Sunday afternoon at FedExPark.

Thomas helped give Gray team starter and eventual winning pitcher, Marc Ashley an early cushion, with a two-run double in the second inning. The two-bagger came with the bases loaded after a leadoff walk by Robby Graham, a double off the bat of Phillip Chapman and another walk by J.D. Wallace. Drew Martinez made it 3-0 with an RBI-single.

The Blue side answered with a run of its own, but the three-run lead proved to be all Ashley needed. He handed the ball over to Martin, who fanned three in two innings before being relieved by Jones. Jones overpowered the Blue with six strikeouts in two innings.

Graham went 2-for-3 with an RBI on the day, while Chapman also produced a pair of hits in the Gray's 12-hit attack. John Jordan went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the game.

Senior Tyler Huelsing led the Blue side with three hits and an RBI, while Heith Hatfield added two hits and an RBI. Adam McClain went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Blue team starter Michael Wills tossed a scoreless first inning before he was relieved by Brandon Showmar, who gave up the three-run second and was tagged with the loss. Junior Ryan Holland was effective, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

The Tiger's next event is Pro Scout Day, which is scheduled for Wed., Oct. 14, at 2:30 p.m. at FedExPark.
