Memphis will field a 2014 squad that features 11 newcomers. GoTigersGo.com introduces you to INF Zach Schritenthal as part of the Around the Horn series of question and answers with newcomers.

Schritenthal is a freshman infielder from DeSoto Central High in Southaven, Miss.

Question 1: What is your favorite restraunt in Memphis?

Zach: My favorite restraunt would probably be Chings. I go with the honey gold chicken tenders.

Question 2: What made you choose to play at the University of Memphis?

Zach: I thought Memphis was a perfect fit for me. I really like the facilities we have access to and it is also really close to home for me.

Question 3: What has been the biggest adjustment so far for you in the college game?

Zach: The biggest adjustment is the speed of the game. The early morning workouts are difficult too.

Question 4: Whose is your favorite MLB player, and why?

Zach: Mariano Rivera is my favorite player because of all he has done for the game. Since he is retiring, I'd probably go with Derek Jeter now.

Question 5: If you didn't play baseball, what sport would you choose to play, and why?

Zach: I'd probably end up playing football. It's always been my secondary sport. I've never been somebody for basketball.

Question 6: Coming in to play shortstop, what are your thoughts on the play of senior Ethan Gross?

Zach: It's a great experience to be learning from Ethan. It's a great privilege to work behind him and grow as a player with him being there at shortstop.

Question 7: What's your favorite thing to do when you're not on the field?

Zach: I enjoy hanging out in my room and just relaxing with the little time off we have from practice and studying."

Question 8: How did you get started playing baseball?

Zach: Probably back when I was four years old or so and my dad just suited me up to play.

Question 9: What's your favorite TV show?

Zach: SportsCenter is always on my TV. I remember seeing Ethan's amazing play last year on there and was like, 'That's Memphis'.

Question 10: What would be your go-to walk out song?

Zach: My go to song in high school was 'Moving Like Bernie', but I heard Ford (Wilson) has been using that the last couple of years.

Question 11: Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

Zach: I usually have to wear something on my wrist. Whether it's a wrist band or bracelet, just have to have something on my wrist.

Question 12: What parts of your game are you trying to improve?

Zach: Definitely trying to get quicker in all phases, but mostly defense in the gaps and bat speed.

Question 13: What's your favorite thing about Memphis?

Zach: I love downtown Memphis. Always fun to go to FedExForum and AutoZone Park.

Question 14: What country would you most like to visit?

Zach: Anywhere in Europe would be pretty cool to see.

Question 15: One thing your teammates would be surprised to know about you?

Zach: They were really surprised to find out I had a tattoo. Something they may not know is that I scuba dive. It's kinda hard to find places to scuba dive around here."

Question 16: Who is the guy in the clubhouse that keeps it most upbeat?

Zach: Without a doubt it's Ford. He's always yelling or doing something like dancing.
