Southaven (HS) Side-Arm Pitcher Nolan Blackwood Signs with Memphis
Nov. 14, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced Wednesday that Southaven High School pitcher Nolan Blackwood has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join Tiger baseball for the 2014 season. "Nolan has a great feel for pitching and the competitive nature to have a great college career here at Memphis," Schoenrock said. "He has mastered the side-arm, submarine delivery that is becoming more common in college bullpens and we are thrilled he will become at Tiger." Blackwood was primarily a pitcher at Southaven High School, but he also played at shortstop and in right field. Last season, Blackwood was part of the Southaven team that posted a 20-12 record. Blackwood posted a 2.21 ERA in nine appearances and struck out 17 batters in 12.2 innings on the mound. He was also invited to play for the MS-Sunbelt Classic. He is a four-year member of the National Honor Society and has a 4.40 grade-point average. Coach Schoenrock plans to announce one signee per day during the National Signing Period that lasts thru Wednesday, Nov. 21.
