MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced Thursday that Northwest Mississippi Community College pitcher Matthew Ferguson signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Tigers for the 2015 season.

"Matt will be a great addition to our 2015 pitching staff," Schoenrock said. "He possesses a power arm with good feel for secondary pitches, and experience at the college level. We expect Matt to factor into our rotation plans for the 2015 season."

A product out of Arlington High School, Ferguson lettered his junior season for coach Chris Ring before sitting out his senior campaign to have Tommy John surgery. In 2011, the Tigers went 33-6 and advanced to the state semifinals. AHS went on to win the Tennessee state title in 2012 with a 32-11 mark.

Last season for the Rangers, Ferguson compiled a 7-2 record and made 13 appearances with 10 starts on the mound to help him garner second team all-state honors. In 55 innings of work, Ferguson totaled 36 strikeouts and 26 walks for a 3.65 ERA to help Northwest to a 31-18 season record.

He is the son of Stan and Martha Ferguson.
