Southpaw Standout Ryan Garner Inks With Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University School of Jackson LHP Ryan Garner has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the University of Memphis Baseball team in 2014, head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Thursday.
"Ryan is going to be a tremendous college pitcher," Schoenrock said. "He has a great feel for three pitches, is highly competitive and has been in big moments in high school athletics, both on the football and baseball field. We expect very big things from Ryan at Memphis and we can't wait for him to join our Tiger family."
Garner is a two-sport star at University School of Jackson (Tenn.) with five letters in baseball and four in football. The southpaw has a 20-2 record since his freshman season and he logged 118 strikeouts and a 2.01 ERA in the 2012 season. He shined in a sub-state game against Webb last year, striking out 16 batters. His next outing, against Ezell-Harding Christian he tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 win. The squad went on to win the state title and Garner grabbed All-State honors for the second time. Garner also played outfield and hit .413 with 19 doubles, six triples, four home runs and 51 RBI.
Garner is the second announced signee in the 2014 class.
