Local Talent Blake Myers Signs NLI with Memphis Baseball
Nov. 16, 2009
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced the signing of St. Benedict of Auburndale lefthander Blake Myers today.
The first local signee, Myers joins Cody Geyer, Ethan Gross and Bryan Picou on Memphis 2010 singing class.
"One of the quality left-handed pitchers we'll count on to fill some pitching staff voids left due to graduation, Blake brings outstanding upside, competitiveness and athleticism to the mound," said Schoenrock. "He'll be counted on to contribute early and has been a Tiger fan his whole life."
A pitcher and outfielder for head coach Steve Heinz's club, Myers played a vital role in the Eagles' 2009 state Runner-up finish. The southpaw went 5-3, with a 2.54 ERA and 54 strikeouts to help SBA to a 28-9 record and a West Region championship. The Eagles claimed a runner-up finish after advancing to the school's first TSSAA Division 2 Class AA state tournament appearance.
Myers hauled in several honors as a junior. He was named to the All-West Region team, as well as garnering All-West Region All-Tournament recognition. In addition, he was tabbed an All-Shelby/Metro performer and was named to the All-Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA) Team. A threat at the plate as well, Myers was named the 2009 St. Benedict Offensive Player of the Year.
