Memphis Inks St. Benedict's Sam Moll to National Letter of Intent
Nov. 17, 2009
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - St. Benedict senior pitcher Sam Moll signed his National Letter of Intent with the University of Memphis Tigers, head coach Daron Schoenrock announced today.
Moll joins high school teammate Blake Myers on Memphis' 2010 singing class, as well as Cody Geyer, Ethan Gross and Bryan Picou .
"Sam has a lot of `big-game experience' and has the potential to develop into a solid college power pitcher," Schoenrock stated. "He is a fierce competitor on the mound and will be counted on to replace some outstanding left-handed pitchers we'll lose to graduation and potentially the draft in 2010."
A Division II TSWA All-State honoree, Moll played a significant role in helping Coach Steve Heinz's SBA Eagles to its best season ever in Division II competition. The Eagles, who posted a strong 28-9 showing in 2009, claimed the school's first-ever D2-AA West Region championship and a TSSAA D2-AA state tournament runner-up finish. The ace of the Eagles' pitching staff, Moll was a perfect 8-0 with a stingy 1.69 ERA in 10 appearances (all starts). The southpaw collected eight complete-game performances en route to being named SBA Pitcher of the Year. The MaxPreps D2 West Region All-District performer struck out 100 batters in 58 innings of work. He earned All Shelby/Metro accolades and was one of five Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps finalists for baseball.
