MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis baseball program rounded out the 2008-09 early signing period by signing Collierville middle infielder John Jordan Tiger head coach Daron Schoenrock announced today.

"John's (Jordan) athletic ability and his work ethic will enable him to compete and contribute to our growing program," Schoenrock stated. "We are thrilled to have another Collierville player coached by Jeff Hopkins join our program. We expect John to have a brilliant career at Memphis."

Jordan has certainly had a brilliant prep career as a two-year letterman for former Tiger skipper Jeff Hopkins at Collierville. The highly decorated middle infielder led the Dragons to a 29-5 finish and a 2008 District title en route pulling in a host of honors in his junior season. He hit a scorching .538, with 51 runs scored, 27 RBI, 19 walks and three home runs. His 2008 campaign was highlighted by a 4-for-4 outing versus White Station, in which he hit for the cycle. He earned Commercial Appeal Player of the Week accolades on April 10, 2008.

Such a productive season earned Jordan a plethora of awards in the spring. The 2008 CHS Baseball MVP was named to the 2008 Commercial Appeal All-Metro team as well as being tabbed a Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) First Team All-State performer. The six-foot Jordan was also selected as a 2008 TBCA All Region player and a TBCA All-State Second Teamer. Selected to play for Team Tennessee in the 2008 Junior Sunbelt Showcase, Jordan was voted to the Tennessee Baseball Report's Class AAA D-2 Team. He was named to the TBCA Region 7-8 Team at the TBCA Showcase. He garnered All-tournament honors at the 2008 USA High School Challenge.

Jordan also lettered on the hardwood as a point guard for the Collierville High basketball squad. He was heavily recruited in Tennessee, drawing attention from Austin Peay, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and UT-Martin.
