MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Head coach Daron Schoenrock announced today that senior pitchers Brach Davis and Brennon Martin will be joined by redshirt sophomore Chad Zurcher as the tri-captains for the 2010 University of Memphis baseball team as voted on by their peers.

Davis and Martin served as the Tiger's No. 1 and 2 weekend starters in 2009, while Zurcher hit .297 before a shoulder injury ended his season just 16 games in.

Davis, a native of Southaven, Miss., compiled a 2-5 record with a 5.71 ERA in 2009. The lefty started in all 12 games he pitched in and struck out 53 batters in 64.2 innings of work. Davis finished the 2009 season strong, winning two of his last three starts.

The Tiger's ace in '09, Martin had a breakout campaign in 2009, going 6-4 with a 4.66 ERA in 13 starts. The southpaw struck out a team and career-high 59 batters, while walking just 18. He saw 83 innings of action--the most by a Tiger pitcher since 2004. Martin, who averaged over six innings per start, highlighted his season with wins over No. 2 Rice (Mar. 27), Troy (Feb. 27), Valparaiso (Mar. 6), UCF (Apr. 3), SIU-Edwardsville (Apr. 10) and Southern Miss (May 9). The Memphis Harding Academy product pitched the Tigers to the ninth inning three times, including blanking Troy through a career-long 8.2 innings en route to a 7-5 victory. Martin also excelled in the classroom. He was named to the 2009 C-USA All-Academic Team and earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine All-District IV First Team honors.

Coming off a freshman campaign in which he led Memphis in on-base percentage and runs, Zurcher went down with a shoulder injury diving in the hole between first and second in the season-opener versus Kansas. He battled through the pain and collected 11 RBI, three doubles and a homer over the next 15 games before being redshirted.
