Memphis will field a 2014 squad that features 11 newcomers. GoTigersGo.com introduces you to infielder Kane Barrow as part of the Around the Horn series of question and answers with newcomers.
Barrow is a redshirt junior infielder from Paris, Tenn., that joined the Tigers after playing two seasons at Jackson State Community College.
Question 1: Why did you choose to play for the Tigers?
Kane: My coach talked to me about it in junior college. I really liked the coaches and how they treated their players.
Question 2: What's been the biggest adjustment you've had to make to adjust to the Division l level?
Kane: The pitching has been the biggest difference going from a junior college level to a Division I level. The velocity's a lot faster and better off-speed (pitches). Since I went this summer and played, it really helped me adapt.
Question 3: Whose your favorite MLB player, and why?
Kane: I would say Albert Pujols. When he played for the Cardinals he was probably my favorite player, and probably still is even though he's struggled for the past couple of years. He seems like a good role model, and played the position I played for the past couple of years.
Question 4: If you didn't play baseball, what sport would you choose to play, and why?
Kane: If I didn't play baseball, I don't know what I would be doing. I played basketball for three years in high school then I decided to focus on baseball my senior year.

Kane: The last couple of years we prayed as a team. I usually pray to myself before and have my earphones in and get zoned in.
Question 11: What country would you most like to visit?
Question 12: What parts of your game are you trying to improve?
Kane: Defensively, I'm trying to get more repetitions, getting better at ground balls and my footwork at first or anywhere in the field. Offensively, I'm just trying to be more fluent and not miss my pitches much, and be able to hit my pitches on demand more instead of missing it.
Question 13: What's your favorite thing about Memphis?
Kane: The school is good. They treat you right and the coaches treat you right. All the players on the team all get along. We're all close to each other. We can talk to each other about anything.

Kane: Ford (Wilson) keeps everybody going. You never know what's going to happen with him. He always keeps you on your toes. He's a funny guy.
Question 15: What non-athlete would you want to meet most and why?
Kane: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just because of how he pushes himself to be a better person each and every day. I don't know how he lives his life but it just seems like from my personal view that he lives the way it needs to be done.
