Nov. 26, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced Tuesday that Brighton High School right-handed pitcher Colton Hathcock signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Tigers for the 2015 season. He is the ninth signee for Memphis’ 2014-15 season.
Hathcock has lettered three years for coach Brian Oswalt at Brighton High School. During his time playing for the Cardinals, he has garnered all-district and all-tournament honors as well as picking up Golden Glove and Silver Bat accolades.
The Atoka native has recorded 59 strikeouts and 19 walks in 60 1/3 innings on the mound for an 8-3 mark and 2.73 ERA over his career. In 2013, he went 5-2 with a 2.37 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 11 walks in 40 2/3 innings. Last season, he threw a no-hitter against White Station High School, striking out nine batters while allowing just three walks in seven innings.
“Colton is a tremendous power right-handed pitcher that we expect to contribute very early as a Tiger,” Schoenrock said. “Colton also has shown tremendous leadership qualities as the quarterback of his high school football team, and we feel he will flourish when we can get him into a full-time baseball setting. He has the ability to show some very high velocity in his career as a Tiger!”
He is the son of Alicia Hathcock.
