Dec. 23, 2013
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior first baseman Tucker Tubbs and junior catcher Carter White were chosen by the American Athletic Conference baseball coaches as preseason All-Conference selections, the league office announced Monday.
"I'm very happy for Tucker and Carter to get this acknowledgment for the inaugural season of the league," head coach Daron Schoenrock said. "I'm sure both young men are excited for this honor, but these two guys would trade these individual honors for team success in the spring. It's great to see the coaches in this league recognize our student-athletes."
The Tigers, which return all nine starters in the lineup, were picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll. Louisville earned eight first-place votes to top the poll while Houston, UCF and UConn tied for second.
Tubbs started in 58 contests a season ago and compiled a .327 average with four home runs and 32 RBI. Making 42 starts at first base, Tubbs sported a .425 slugging percentage and had a team-high 70 hits.
White appeared in 52 games for the Tigers in 2013 and sported a .325 average. White had a team-best .412 on-base percentage and led the club with nine sac bunts on the season.
Memphis opens the 2014 campaign on Feb. 14 against Western Michigan at FedExPark. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
