Alvin Wright came to the University of Memphis after a very successful prep career at Memphis Melrose High School. He immediately became a starter for the Tigers at point guard and helped his teammates to a four year record of 80-34.
As a freshman, he averaged 7.9 points per game and by his senior season, he had increased that total to 15.5 points per outing. During his four years, Wright scored 1,319 points and was ranked 10th on the all-time scoring list at the completion of his career. His name appears in the Tiger record book nine times, including a second place for assists in a game, season and career and ninth in career field goals made.
Following graduation, Wright moved to Texas where he was employed by Phillips Driscopipe, Inc.
