A graduate of Kirby High School in Memphis, Dwight Boyd joined the Tigers in 1984 and became part of a team that would run off 105 wins in 135 total contests.
Boyd and his teammates appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times during the 1980s and the 1985 team won their way to the Final Four in Lexington, Kentucky. Memphis won the Metro Conference Tournament in 1985 and 1987 and Boyd received All-Metro Tournament honors in 1988. The guard played in 131 career games, which still stands as the all-time U of M record. A member of the Basketball Weekly All-South Team in 1988, Boyd led the Tigers in scoring in 1987-88, totaling 441 points on the season.
His career total of 1,249 points ranks him 16th on the all-time scoring list and his 82.7 career free throw percentage is third overall. Boyd was drafted by the Denver Nuggets of the NBA.
