Memphis vs. Louisville Postgame Quotes
March 1, 2014
I am so proud of our young men, what a great job they did today. Everyone contributed, including all the guys on the bench. This win was spectacular for our team and this city. My staff did an unbelievable job before and during the game when it came to planning. The fans were also awesome, and contributed down the stretch. We were down eight points with a little more than four minutes to go and I told my team, we are going to win. We have been down with less than four minutes to play multiple times this season, and found a way to win. It was six on five because the crowd will help us win this game. I give credit to Louisville and Rick Pitino. Our ability to bounce back after the loss to Houston was tremendous, and I am glad we were able to pull out the win. Completing the regular season sweep over Louisville is huge for this team and the city.

Keeping positive energy is important, and our guys showed the resilience to win a tough game. This is a great day for Memphis Tiger basketball. We were down eight with four minutes to go, and it was not looking good. Luke Hancock had a three that went in and out. Chris Crawford then hit a huge three down on the other end. That was the turning point in this game. Louisville was 4 for 23 from behind the arc and only was able to knock two down in the second half. We made plays down the stretch and won the game. I am so proud of our guys and their resilience to win.
On getting the victory:
We have a lot of ball handlers on this team, and handling the ball down the stretch does not bother us. I wanted to have the ball in my hands during the final couple of minutes of the game because I felt like I could get into the paint and either score or draw a foul. Everyone is happy to win this one and enjoy the rest of this Saturday. This win was for the fans, and they are the reason why we won this game. Bouncing back was huge for us after losing to Houston. Geron Johnson played awesome defense today against Russ Smith down the stretch. He is one of the best defenders in the country and our whole team trusts him to make a play. I could not be as aggressive as I would have liked with the four fouls but we did the best job we could as a team.
On picking up two victories in the regular season against Louisville:
Louisville brought some great energy, which caused us to get into foul trouble early on in the game. We found a way to win and made the right plays. Sweeping Louisville is huge for us, and means a lot for the city. I am glad I was able to knock down that three towards the end of the game for my team. They all played with high energy, and making that shot was huge. I had not been shooting the ball well but today was different for me. This rivalry is a big one, and beating Louisville twice boosts our confidence heading into the final two games of the regular season.
On the team's resiliency:
I keep faith in my team always, and I am proud of every single one of them. We are trying to learn from both wins and losses. We stayed poised and made some key shots down the stretch. The energy of our team played a big impact in the way we played. We were in desperation mode after losing to Houston. I am excited to get back to practicing and taking this energy into the final two games of the season.

On conference road games:
These are hostile environments. These are good tournament games; we are going to be a good tournament team. I am not overly concerned. It's tough, we have had a good road season and we have to get ready for another tough road game. We just have to give Memphis credit and move on and hopefully we can get them back in the conference tournament.
