Memphis Cruises to 83-52 Victory over UCF to Reach C-USA Championship Game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Wesley Witherspoon scored a game-high 15 points to lead Memphis past UCF, 83-52, in the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Friday evening at FedExForum.
Tarik Black posted 13 points and five rebounds and Conference USA Player of the Year Will Barton added 10 points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists. Joe Jackson was the fourth Tiger in double-figures with 10 points. In all, ten Tigers scored in the game.
After building a 14-point halftime lead, the Tigers pushed the margin out to as many as 38 points with 3:14 left in the game. The 31-point win is the largest for the Tigers in C-USA postseason play. The previous high was a 26-point win in the 2008 championship game against Tulsa.
Memphis connected on 25-of-55 (45.5 percent) field-goal attempts and held UCF to 16-of-48 (33.3 percent) from the floor, including 2-of-19 (10.5 percent) from three-point territory.
The U of M increased its record to 25-8, while UCF fell to 22-10.
UCF scored the first two points of the game and led, 7-5, early in the first half, but Memphis held the Knights scoreless for the next 5:26 and scored 12-consecutive points to gain control of the game.
The Tigers took a 36-22 lead into the halftime break and never looked back. Witherspoon posted 10 points and Chris Crawford chipped in six points, five boards and three assists before intermission.
Isaiah Sykes led the Knights with 11 points and seven boards, before fouling out with over 10 minutes left in regulation. Marcus Jordan and Josh Crittle each scored nine points.
Memphis will face Marshall in the championship game at 10:30 a.m. (CT) on Saturday morning. The game will be televised on CBS.
