POST GAME QUOTES

No. 25/20 Memphis (27-4, C-USA 16-0) 86, UAB (15-16, C-USA 7-9) 71
UAB Head Coach Jerod Haase
“Even in the last two minutes, we were down pretty big and the guys, they weren’t going to quit, whether it was our walk on, or the rest of the guys. It’s been that way the entire year, we just continue to play as hard as we possibly can. Just Memphis right now has done a heck of a job recruiting, they’ve done a heck of a job coaching this team and it’s just a different animal right now.”
"The turnovers in the first half, we were back on our heels. They do a good job of trying to play off and make it look like the guy is open, and then our guys, we talked about it later, telegraphing their passes. And once you telegraph your passes, that led to those steals which led to baskets in the first half.”
"We were trying to smoke and mirror it a little bit and going from man to zone and trying to switch defenses up a little bit and it’s been good, we got some good things out of it. We’ve improved in a lot of ways, but at the same time, we just weren’t able to get the stops we needed to."
"The turnovers were the biggest thing, but we did a nice job of attacking. They do a great job defensively, they’re so long and athletic defensively that it makes it difficult, but when we didn’t turn it over, we attacked the ball screens pretty well and actually got them to change their defense a little bit, which is a little bit of a victory, on how they played the ball screens. But we just weren’t able to get enough because we kept turning the basketball over and couldn’t get the shots up."
Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner
“It was a tremendous win. To go 16-0 is special. You don’t take that for granted. It’s a special team to do what we just did. That’s a very good UAB team. Jerod Haase has done a great job with this team.”
On the play of Joe Jackson
“I think Joe was phenomenal. Our team is so much better when he’s playing like that. That’s why our consistency has been so good is because Joe has been so consistent.”
On the team’s rebounding
“I’m a big preacher about our rebounding. I’m really proud of our guards hitting the glass. If our guards are in there rebounding, it allows us to start to break quicker. I do think we need our bigs to be consistent. I thought Tarik (Black) gave us some great minutes in the second half. He had some tremendous moves.”
