Memphis vs. LeMoyne-Owen College
Wednesday, November 02, 2011
Memphis 119, LeMoyne-Owen College 67
Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner
The good thing about this game is that we can take this film and break it down and show our guys a lot of things that we need to work on. We have to get a lot better. We did some good things. The biggest thing I was proud of was 26 assists on 44 made field goals. I don't care who you play, whether it's LeMoyne-Owen or North Carolina or the Los Angeles Lakers, if you're moving the ball, you're moving the ball and making shots. I was not proud of our free-throw shooting. You can lose games by not making free throws. We have got to get better pressing. We need to get up and down the floor quicker. We have to do better on the perimeter defensively. There are some positives but there are some things to improve on.
On the play of Stan Simpson, Chris Crawford and Antonio Barton
I felt that Stan (Simpson) could help us if he played hard, which he did tonight. He gave us some good minutes. We need that production out of him every night. I thought Antonio (Barton) played well tonight. This was not one of the better nights for Chris, he was just having an off night, he is better than that. I was proud him that he had five rebounds
LeMoyne-Owen Head Coach William B. Anderson
"I thought the Tigers played really well. Coach Pastner has put together a great squad. They're well-disciplined, prepared and just very good. From our perspective, I thought we did a good job of working on stuff we needed to work on. Unfortunately, we just didn't have enough to match up with them for 40 minutes."
"Teshawn Byron is a player. I think that he can play with anybody in the nation. We're looking for him to be one of the top players in our conference and in NCAA Div. II. He played really well tonight. We just wish we would've had a couple other guys step up and play to his level. Then maybe it would've been a different ball game."
"Everybody knows that Memphis is a top 10 team. They're one of the elite teams in the country. I expect them to have a great season. They have a great coaching staff and great players so the sky is the limit for those guys."
