No. 13/13 Tigers Pull Away To 92-63 Exhibition Win Over Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -University of Memphis senior Michael Dixon Jr. scored a game-high tying 18 points, and freshman Nick King posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards to lift the No. 13/13 Tigers to a 92-63 exhibition game win over Christian Brothers at FedExForum Friday.
Drew Hildreth led Christian Brothers with 18 points. Ryan Fleming grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, and Sidy Sall pulled down eight boards.
Memphis held a 59-47 lead with 11:29 left, but closed the contest with a 33-16 run to pull away for the victory. Freshman Austin Nichols helped start the Tigers' spurt with four quick points, and a Damien Wilson dunk with 7:49 left doubled the Memphis lead from 12 points (59-47 at the 11:29 mark) to 24 (73-49 with 7:49 left).
The Tigers' largest lead of the contest was 32 points at the 2:16 mark when sophomore Anthony Cole buried a three-pointer from the corner.
Memphis led by only 12 points (47-35) at the break and was unable to shake the Buccaneers early in the second half. Although the lead never fell below double-digits, Christian Brothers stayed within striking distance, as it cut the Memphis lead to 10 points on two occasions.
In the first half, the Tigers jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first four minutes and never trailed. Memphis increased its lead to 17-7 before a 14-6 Christian Brothers run cut the Tigers' advantage to 23-21 with 8:05 remaining before halftime. After two Fleming free throws sliced the Memphis lead to 27-25 with 6:07 left, the Tigers finished the first half with a 20-10 spurt for the 47-35 halftime advantage.
Memphis returns to action Thursday, Nov. 14 when it hosts Austin Peay in the 2013-14 season opener at FedExForum. Game time is 7 p.m. (CT), and the contest is slated for a FOX SportSouth broadcast.
