This was a great basketball game. It was a high level basketball game against a very good team. They were well coached, and they have good players. Those guards are good, and they are experienced in the ACC. I don't think our team fully understands how good of a win that really is. First of all, winning is extremely hard, as I have said many times. To beat a veteran team like that, an NCAA Tournament team, is great for us, especially for a young team like us.
I have to give an amazing shout out to the unreal, best fan base I have ever seen. `What was the announced crowd tonight?' 17, 873? That is just ridiculous with a capital "R". The fans here are the best in the country. You (the fans) tonight once again gave us a lift.
We held on and we came back and got the "W". We made some big defensive stops toward the end of the game. We were hanging our hats on defensive rebounding, even though our rebounding was awful. We rebounded the ball in the last minute and made stops. We made big free throws down the stretch and throughout the game, and that got us the "W". This was a big win for Memphis, but as I told the team, this win means nothing if we don't take care of business against Northwestern State on Wednesday.
Defense on the big guys in the paint?
They were one of the leading three point teams in the ACC last year, and we held Adrian Thomas to zero points. We did a great job on him, and Malcolm Grant and Durand Scott are really good players, and they hit some really tough shots. You have to give them credit for that. We toughed it out, and we won based on defense.
We did what we needed to do sometimes on the glass, and that was a big flat out "F" we will get graded on. We got rebounds when we needed them, and that is the bottom line. I want people to understand this was not an easy win. This was a hard fought, business like, grind it out win where you put the hard hat on and roll up your sleeves; a blue collar win against a very good basketball team. Winning is hard.

Well we didn't play very well, and I feel that we let them off the hook. We missed free-throws, we had some busted assignments on the defensive end and there were some bang-bang plays that didn't go our way. But they shot tremendously from the free throw line; I mean they got to the line 40 times, and we play zone, so I have to give them credit. They figured out a way to get to the line with us playing zone, and they made their free throws.
About the atmosphere tonight at FedExForum
It is good for us, and hopefully it is something that we can grow from and get better as the year progresses on.
About the back and forth style of play of tonight's match-up
Well I thought that we had our chances. We took the lead, and then we gave up a huge three in the corner. (That play) was just a busted assignment, and we allowed them to squeeze us, and we left their best shooter (open). That was the turning point because (prior to that) we had control of the game at that point and time.
What did you learn about your team tonight?
Well we just have to get better; better with our execution on the offensive end, and we just have to be more solid and patient offensively. Defensively, we can't have busted assignments.
