Memphis Postgame Quotes

Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner
"The guys really played well. Defensively, we were really good even when we struggled offensively. We did our job defensively to get us buckets off the defensive end. We had 18 assists on 32 made field goals, and that's being efficient. We had a two-to-one, assist-to-turnover ratio against a team that forces 21 turnovers (per game). We held them under 40 percent from the field and under 30 percent from the three, so I'm really proud of that. It was a total team effort. Everybody came in and played hard."
On a 22-2 advantage in fast break points...
"We had really good transition baskets. I loved everyone's energy and the crowd's energy. If you heard my pregame theme, it was about energy. That's really what it came down to. That doesn't guarantee a win, but it sure puts you in a position to have a better opportunity to win a game."
Ohio Head Coach Jim Christian
On Memphis' athleticism
"It was our offensive turnovers in the first half; I thought we had so many live ball turnovers. When it was 20-16, I thought we had played really solid up to that point. We played really smart and followed the game plan very well, didn't make some shots, but that's fine. We just turned the ball over, a lot of them unforced on the break, and when turn the ball over, it's hard to get back. We took some questionable shots, which led to layups, anybody can be athletic if that's happening. We just have to regroup and play better. For 12 minutes, the first 12 minutes of the game we really came out and played the way we came to play."
On Ohio's offensive play
"I mean there are a million reasons, a lot of it was again, if you let them build confidence by turning the ball over in the open floor, it leads to layups and dunks. They are going to look pretty good, of course they are going to guard a little better. Now in the second half, they are going to have a little more confidence because we didn't stop them. Now they're hitting threes, that's what happens in basketball. This is where we're at this week, we had an awful week, and we have to get better, and get better next week. There is a lot of basketball to be played."
