Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner

Opening Statement
“This was kind of one of those weird games where there was no flow really because of the amount of turnovers. Bottom line is we got the win. You say before the game ‘hey coach Austin Peay is going to shoot 50 percent from the field, 75 percent from three and they’re going to shoot 10 more free throws than you, but you’re going to win the game by 18,’ I would say you’re crazy. They shot so well but we did a good job in defensive pressuring, forcing 28 turnovers. Our issue is that we had 23 turnovers. A lot of them were very unforced errors. Some of the positives to take from this is that we had 25 assists on 37 made field goals, which is excellent. We had a plus 19 in the boards and shooting 52 percent from the field.”

Austin Peay Head Coach Dave Loos

On turnovers and rebounds, Memphis offensive rebounds, one less than Governors total
“We got manhandled inside, that’s for sure. I’ve been in maybe 1,200 games, but I’ve never seen a game where somebody got 66 points in the lane. It looked like that with the points off turnovers and high-low game, we got beat on the boards really bad. They were point blank at the basket all night. We can’t win that way, that’s for sure.”

On being outscored 57-7 in bench points
“We figured it up, we were 2-for-7 off three’s, it’s not that we had that many shots, obviously, but we couldn’t get anything to go. The 28 turnovers, there you go, I would like to say except those in a stretch of 5:32 in the first half. Memphis went on a 23-2 run, in that 5:32, we came unstitched. We committed turnovers, everybody, it was just one of those stretches on that 23-2 run, it was the difference in the game.”

After the tie at 10-10
“Actually we had a little momentum, and then we had that break there, we were up 10-8. They called the foul on Horton, and then they went to the line with the flagrant foul, and they got two [free throws] and the ball on the side, and that’s when it started. I think this all starts at the point, but their defense was good, I have to give them credit, they got after us pretty good. We have to handle it better than we did tonight, in the future. We have a real problem, it starts with one player, and then it spreads because a bunch of people turned it over.”
