  Memphis vs. USF - Series Notes
  • Memphis improved its series record to 19-3 (.864 winning percentage) versus USF with tonight’s win.

  • The Tigers have won six straight in the series.

  • Memphis also has won six straight in Tampa.

  • In its history, USF’s first game against a ranked opponent was Memphis in 1972-73. The Tigers, ranked No. 11 at the time, defeated the Bulls 87-73 Dec. 7, 1972, at the Mid-South Coliseum. The 1972-73 Tigers squad advanced to the NCAA championship game.

  Memphis vs. USF - Team Notes
  • Memphis played its first game in its new league, the American Athletic Conference, tonight. It is the sixth different conference for the Tigers in their history.

  • With tonight’s win, Memphis evened its record in “first-ever” games in a new league at 3-3. Prior to tonight, the Tigers won their Mississippi Valley and Conference USA “first-ever” games. Memphis lost its “first-ever” games in the Missouri Valley, Metro and Great Midwest leagues.

  • The Tigers played their 51st all-time conference opener tonight versus USF. Memphis now has a 33-18 record (.647 winning percentage) in conference openers.

  • Memphis is 14-7 (.667 winning percentage) in its last 21 road conference openers. Under head coach Josh Pastner, the Tigers are 4-1 in conference road openers.

  • The Tigers now have a 9-3 record (.750 winning percentage) when playing on New Year’s Eve since World War II.

  • Memphis played its final game of the 2013 calendar year versus USF Tuesday. The Tigers now have a 14-3 record (.824 winning percentage) in their last-game-of-the-calendar-year the past 17 seasons.

  • Memphis’ 88 points scored in its American Athletic Conference opener are the most in a conference opener since the Tigers netted 99 points in their 2007-08 Conference USA opener versus East Carolina (99-58 win/Jan. 9, 2008).

  • Memphis scored 88 points tonight in the win over USF. The Bulls scoring defense had allowed only 65.6 points in the previous eight games (all single-digit outcome games).

  Memphis vs. USF - Player Notes
    • For the 48th time in his career and the fifth time this season, David Pellom shot 50 percent or better from the floor. Pellom was 5-of-7 for a 71.4 field goal percentage versus the Bulls Tuesday.

    • Pellom scored 10 points tonight, and has scored in double digits in three of the last four games.

    • Senior guard Geron Johnson led the team with 19 points in tonight’s victory. Johnson has posted double figures in four of the last five games.

    • Geron Johnson recorded a career-best five steals versus the Bulls Tuesday.

    • Chris Crawford played in his 108th-consecutive contest vs. USF tonight.

    • Chris Crawford’s four assists tonight put him over 400 for his career. He is in ninth place on the Tigers all-time career assists chart with 401 career dimes.

    • Joe Jackson moved up the Memphis career scoring chart with his 18 points vs. USF Tuesday. He moved past Robert Dozier (1,381 points from 2005-09) into the No. 14 spot and now has 1,391 points. Up next for Jackson is Mike Butler, who is No. 13 with 1,409 career points from 1965-68.

    • Chris Crawford also moved up the Tigers career scoring list with his six points vs. USF Tuesday. He now is in the No. 43 spot with 1,235 career points (tied with Cheyenne Gibson, 1987-90).

    • Memphis hosts its American Athletic Conference home opener Saturday, Jan. 4 when it welcomes longtime rival Cincinnati to FedExForum. The contest, to be televised by ESPN2, is set for an 11 a.m. (CT) tip.
