IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis' Shaq Goodwin has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for Jan. 7-13, the league office announced Monday. It is the second time this season Goodwin has received the league's weekly honor, as he also was named Freshman of the Week Dec. 10.

Last week, the 6-foot-9, 246-pound forward helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0 Conference USA record with victories over East Carolina 67-54 and UAB 69-53. In the two wins, Goodwin averaged 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 56.3 percent from the field.

In the UAB victory, Goodwin scored 10 points and grabbed three boards. He netted all six of his first-half points in the game's opening three minutes, and later assisted on a D.J. Stephens' layup to open the second-half scoring.

Against East Carolina, the Atlanta, Ga., native had 12 points and eight boards. Goodwin posted five points and four rebounds in the game's final 8:25 to help the Tigers hold off the Pirates. He finished off his performance with a reverse slam dunk with :38 left on the clock to seal the win.

The Tigers (12-3, 2-0 C-USA) returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Houston, Texas, to face Rice (3-11, 0-2 C-USA) in a Conference USA match-up. The game, to be televised on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS; Memphis Comcast channel 22), is slated for a 6 p.m. (CT) start.
