ATLANTA -- - University of Memphis junior guard Chris Douglas-Roberts was named one of four finalists for the 2008 Naismith Men's College Player of the Year Award presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Monday. He is joined on the list of finalists by Michael Beasley (Kansas State), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina) and Kevin Love (UCLA).

The finalist honor is one of a slew of honors Douglas-Roberts has already received this season. He has been named an All-American honoree by four different organizations, including the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). He became the first Tiger to earn USBWA All-America first team honors since Anfernee Hardaway did so in 1993. He has also earned All-America honors from The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated and ESPN.com and was named the Conference USA Player of the Year earlier this month.

The Detroit, Mich., native leads Memphis in scoring (17.3 ppg) and three-point field goal percentage (42.7). An All-C-USA first team honoree, Douglas-Roberts became the 43rd Tiger in Memphis history to pass the 1,000 career point mark and was named the C-USA Player of the Week three times already this season.

CBS Sports will profile the four Naismith Trophy finalists during its coverage of the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship starting with the first games of the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen © on March 27th. Finalists were selected through a vote by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, who narrowed the mid-season list of 30 candidates down to the above foursome. The Board, which is comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country, based its criteria on player performances this season.

The four finalists will attend the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Guardians of the Game awards program on Sunday, April 6 at the 2008 Men's Final Four in San Antonio, where the winner will be presented with the Naismith Trophy as the 2008 Men's College Player of the Year. CBS will feature the winner during halftime of its coverage of the NCAA Men's Championship game on Monday, April 7th.

Again this season, AT&T will give fans a voice in selecting the winner. Fan voting will account for 25 percent of the selection process. Fans can text message "VOTE" to "87654" to receive the final ballot and participate in the voting process. AT&T is making the voting open to other wireless carriers, allowing more fans to participate. Other wireless carriers must opt-in for their subscribers to participate.

The deadline for fan voting for the award is April 5th at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).

Douglas-Roberts and his Tiger teammates will be making their third consecutive NCAA Sweet Sixteen © appearance, Friday, against Big 10 foe Michigan State. That game will be televised on CBS beginning at approximately 8:57 p.m. (CT).
