July 23, 2014
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- University of Memphis men's basketball sophomore Austin Nichols is the featured guest on this week's episode of WKNO's Sports Files with Greg Gaston that airs Thursday and Saturday, July 24 and 26. The 6-foot-8, 228-pound forward, the 2013-14 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, talks with Gaston about his muscle and weight gain, other areas of his game he's working on, his new Tigers teammates, the upcoming Canadian exhibition tour and more.
Last season, Nichols started all 34 games as a freshman, becoming the first Tigers player to start every game as a freshman since Darius Washington Jr. did so in 2004-05 (38 starts). He averaged 9.3 points, 4.3 boards and 1.2 blocked shots, while shooting a team-high 58.9 percent from the floor. In addition to the league's Rookie of the Year honor, the Collierville, Tenn., native was named The American Rookie of the Week four times during the season.
The show airs Thursday (July 24) at 8:30 p.m. (CT) and Saturday (July 26) at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on WKNO/Channel 10. The show also can be seen Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT) on WKNO2 (Comcast Digital Cable Channel 910).
