MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - One sports cliché is "this is how legends are made." On Friday night before a crowd of over 15,000 at FedExForum, University of Memphis basketball's present and past came together to celebrate the start of the 2012-13 season and honor former Tigers hoops standouts.

The festivities began when the doors opened at 5:30 p.m. (CT) with the Memphis women's squad practicing on the arena floor. The night's events cranked up around 7:30 p.m. (CT) with the women's players introductions, and then FedExForum went back in time when over 50 former men's and women's basketball players were recognized to resounding ovations.

After that, the arena came back to the present with the 2012-13 men's basketball introductions, followed by an in-house fireworks display.

Sophomore Adonis Thomas took the three-point contest championship, while senior D.J. Stephens took the dunk contest title for a second-straight season.

After Friday's Madness, both Tigers squads get back to business with practices Saturday. The men's team tips off preseason drills with one session, while the women's team starts two-a-day practices tomorrow.
