Tigers Tip Off 2013-14 Season With Memphis Madness Friday
Oct. 18, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. --While the college basketball practice schedule has already been well underway, Friday night marked the first time an arena full of Tigers fans got to see the men's and women's basketball teams in person as part of the annual Memphis Madness festivities.
The night opened with the unveiling of the new basketball floor to the tune of Eye of the Tiger, sung by Survivor lead singer and Memphis-born Jimi Jamison. The women's basketball team was the first to take to the new floor for its introductions, followed by a performance from iLuminate, the America's Got Talent performers. The iLuminate performance was wrapped up with men's basketball head coach Josh Pastner leading the troupe and then taking over the microphone to introduce his 2013-14 Tigers team.
Sophomore Shaq Goodwin won the dunk contest, and the Tigers played a brief full-court scrimmage before iLuminate closed out the evening for Tigers fans.
Memphis will open its 2013-14 season with a men's exhibition game against Christian Brothers Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. The Tigers open the regular season against in-state foe Austin Peay, guided by former Tiger Dave Loos, Nov. 14.
The women's basketball team opens its season Nov. 2 with an exhibition game against cross-town foe Christian Brothers. The women's team opens the regular season Nov. 8 against East Tennessee State.
