IRVING, Texas -
University of Memphis' Chris Douglas-Roberts was selected the Conference USA Player of the Week for Nov. 5-11, the league office announced Monday. This is the third time in Douglas-Roberts' career that he took home the C-USA weekly honor, as he received the award twice last year.
Douglas-Roberts, the 2007-08 Conference USA preseason Player of the Year, led the Tigers to a 2-0 start and the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic/Memphis Regional crown last week with wins over Tennessee-Martin (102-71) and Richmond (80-63).
The 6-foot-7 guard/forward averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two victories. In the season opener Nov. 5 versus Tennessee-Martin, Douglas-Roberts tied career highs for points (28) and steals (4), while pulling down eight rebounds. The next night (Nov. 6) against Richmond, he grabbed a career-best tying nine rebounds and also added 19 points. After scoring 47 points in the Tigers' first two games, Douglas-Roberts needs 132 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career.
The Detroit, Mich., native's name appears on both the 2007-08 Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy preseason watch lists.
The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in both national polls, takes a step out of regular season play Monday, Nov. 12 with an exhibition game versus Christian Brothers. Game time is 7:00 p.m. (CT) at FedExForum.
