Douglas-Roberts Named C-USA Player Of The Week, Dick Vitale National Player Of The Week
Nov. 19, 2007
IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis' Chris Douglas-Roberts was selected the Conference USA Player of the Week for Nov. 12-18, the league office announced Monday. This is the second-straight week Douglas-Roberts has earned C-USA's weekly honor.
It is the fourth time in Douglas-Roberts' career that he took home the league's weekly accolade. He also received the award twice in the 2006-07 year.
The Memphis junior also earned praise from Dick Vitale/ESPN.com with the web site naming Douglas-Roberts its National Player of the Week. The site named Memphis its National Team of the Week.
Douglas-Roberts, the 2007-08 Conference USA preseason Player of the Year, led the Tigers to a 4-0 start and the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic championship last week with wins over Oklahoma (63-53) and Connecticut (81-70) at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.
The 6-foot-7 guard/forward averaged 22.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the two victories. Douglas-Roberts saved his best for the title game victory over Connecticut, scoring a career-high 33 points versus the Huskies. He also hit a career-best 14 field goals against UConn. Douglas-Roberts added seven boards for the Tigers in the championship game. After the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic (four games), Douglas-Roberts needs only 87 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career. When he reaches the milestone, he will be the 43rd player in Tiger history to do so.
The Detroit, Mich., native's name appears on both the 2007-08 Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy preseason watch lists.
The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in both national polls, returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 20 when they host regional foe Arkansas State (0-2). Game time is 7:00 p.m. (CT) at FedExForum.
