Evans Named C-USA Co-Rookie Of The Week
Dec. 8, 2008
IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis freshman Tyreke Evans has been named the Conference USA co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the second time this season that Evans earned the honor, as he also received it Nov. 17. The Chester, Pa., native shared this week's award with Marshall's Damier Pitts. Only first-year players - freshmen, transfers and redshirts - are eligible for the honor. Evans is the league's first repeat Rookie of the Week winner this year. In the Tigers' lone game last week, Evans netted a season-high 24 points and added six boards, four assists and three steals in the 100-61 victory over Marist Dec. 2. The 6-foot-6 guard shot 10-of-13 from the field, including 7-of-8 in the first half, versus the Red Foxes. Memphis (5-1), ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press poll and No. 15 in the ESPN/USA Today poll, returns to action Saturday, Dec. 13 when it travels to Washington, D.C., to face No. 19/19 Georgetown (5-1). The game, to be televised by CBS, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) tip.
