Memphis Football Preseason Camp - Day One

The Memphis football team opened up their preseason camp today. Check out some highlights from the first day and hear from junior DB Bobby McCain and head coach Justin Fuente.

Adam Hicks is in his fourth season as a member of the University of Memphis staff, serving as an intern for the Tigers' defensive unit.

In 2014, Memphis won the American Athletic Conference championship, the team's first league title since 1971, and posted a 10-3 record en route to a Miami Beach Bowl title.

Memphis' defense ranked 11th in FBS Football in scoring defense in 2014, allowing just 195 points per game. The Tigers ranked 27th nationally in total defense, giving up 349.5 yards an outing. Memphis’ 106.31 defensive pass efficiency rating led the American Athletic Conference and ranked eighth nationally while the Tigers’ 121.5 rushing defense average was 19th nationally.

For the 2013 season, Memphis' defense ranked 39th nationally in total defense (370.7 ypg allowed) and 12th against the run (116.3 ypg allowed).

As a member of Head Coach Justin Fuente and Defensive Coordinator Barry Odom's first staff in 2012, Hicks was part of a unit which made a 67-position improvement in terms of total defense. The Tigers ranked 50th nationally in total defense (383.58 ypg allowed).

Hicks joined the Memphis staff after working the previous two football seasons at the University of Mississippi. Hicks originally joined the Ole Miss staff as a Graduate Assistant - Video. In his initial role, he collected and logged video in a film library, handled coaches' requests for video needs and maintained player film filing in the program's video library.

After five months assisting Mississippi's video coordinator, Hicks spent the 2010-2012 seasons as an administrative intern for the team's defensive unit. In the role, Hicks assisted in weekly breakdowns of opponents, prepared video and handouts for position meetings and assisted in the preparation of game plans and scouting reports. He worked primarily with current Memphis coach Chris Vaughn with the Ole Miss' safeties during the 2011-12 season.

Hicks graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in sports management in 2009.

Hicks is married to the former Samantha Brann of Fulton, Ky., and the couple has a four-year old daughter, Berkley.
