Jashell Mitchell joined the Tiger Football staff in 2010, and works directly with Coach Larry Porter as the assistant to the head coach. In this position she is responsible for coordinating Porter's schedule, appearances and speaking engagements, as well as maintaining other administrative duties.
Mitchell came to the University of Memphis after serving in two different capacities at her alma mater, Bethune-Cookman. From 2003-05, she served as an operations-administrative assistant for both the men's basketball and football teams. She worked two seasons as the director of basketball operations for the women's basketball program at the University of Arizona before returning to Bethune-Cookman in 2008. Her most recent assignment at B-CU was as the academic coordinator for athletics. In that capacity, she served as the athletic academic advisor for men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball. She also served as the advisor for the Bethune-Cookman University Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Mitchell participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)-Nike "So You Want to Be a Coach" program at the 2006 Final Four in Boston, and also has served in administrative-operations roles for NBA & NFL sport camps in Flint, Mich.
A native of Flint, Mich., Mitchell was a three-year letter winner in women's basketball at Bethune-Cookman University, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education/recreation in 2005.
