Zach Walrod is in his second year in the role of Associate Director of Athletic Performance in Football for the Memphis Tigers.
At Memphis, Walrod assists in program design and administration of the Tiger Football program's athletic performance efforts. Within his responsibilities, he coordinates the strength and conditioning yearly program for the team's quarterbacks.
Walrod also serves as a liaison with the sports medicine staff to design strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes needing rehabilitation.
Prior to joining the University of Memphis staff, Walrod worked in the Minnesota Twins organization as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. He assisted with all facets of strength and conditioning for both major league and minor league players during the Twins' spring training in 2013. Following spring training he worked with the Twins' minor league players in the Gulf Coast League.
Walrod was a collegiate wrestler at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education in 2009. In addition to lettering for Luther College, he was also a student assistant strength coach at the school.
Walrod would go on to do post-graduate work at Illinois State where he first worked as a strength and conditioning intern (2009-2011) and later as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach (2011-2013). He earned a Master of Science in Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity in 2013.
While at Illinois State, Walrod assisted with the design, implementation and administration of strength and conditioning programs for various teams. His work included coordinated strength and conditioning programs for Illinois State's track and field sprinters as well as developing programs for the Redbirds' men's and women's tennis student-athletes.
Walrod is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Additionally, he is a USAW Level 1 Sport Performance Coach as administered by USA Weightlifting.
