Tigers Blank Louisiana-Monroe 28-0
Sept. 9, 2000
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Travis Anglin and Darche Epting scored two touchdowns each, leading Memphis to a 28-0 victory Saturday night over Louisiana-Monroe. The Memphis defense and great field possession that were major factors in three second-half touchdowns. Memphis (1-1) started in its own territory only twice in the second half, including the last drive of the game. The three second-half scoring drives started at the Indian 3, 23 and 41. For the game, Louisiana-Monroe (0-2) had 176 yards of offense, the second week in a row that Memphis held its opponent under 200 yards. Memphis finished with 278. Anglin gave Memphis a 7-0 lead at the half on a 13-yard quarterback draw with 4:58 left in the first quarter, capping a 6-play, 78-yard drive. In the second half, the Tigers scored three times, never having to go far to reach the end zone. The Tigers' Quincy Stephenson blocked an Indian punt after Louisiana-Monroe's opening drive of the half, and Memphis took over on the 3. Anglin got his second touchdown on the third play after the blocked punt, giving Memphis a 14-0 lead about three minutes into the half. Epting's touchdowns, a 4-yard run around left end with 36 seconds left in
the third quarter, and a 6-yarder with 2:59 left in the game, followed Indian
punts from deep in their own territory.
