Memphis creative groups Running Pony and Sullivan Branding have won regional Emmy awards for work they produced for the University of Memphis Tigers football team.

The two companies shared an Emmy in the Commercial Campaign category for the 2012 season humorous “Watercooler Guys” ads that gave birth to a popular local catchphrase--“Mind your business, Dennis!”

Running Pony won a second Emmy in the Sports Promo category for the team’s intro video dubbed “A Storm Is Coming” featuring the Tigers and “The Mighty Sound of the South” marching band playing in a violent rainstorm.

The Emmy awards were telecast live from the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville Saturday night.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Director of Athletics Tom Bowen. “We are proud to work with these two outstanding Memphis businesses and appreciate their efforts to enhance the Memphis Tigers’ brand.”

The popular campaign featured two actors around an office watercooler discussing upcoming Tigers games, and were often compared to the “Sonic guys” or ESPN SportsCenter-style commercials.

The team intro video, played at the beginning of each game as the Tigers took the field, used special effects to simulate a fierce thunderstorm at Liberty Bowl Stadium. Ironically, the season home opener where the video debuted was such a stormy night that the game was delayed due to lightning.

The Mid-South Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences received a record number of entries this year—almost 800 entries—for the 28th Annual Mid-South Regional Emmy Awards. A complete list of winners can be found at http://emmynashville.org. The Emmy awards recognize outstanding achievements in television, and are intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence for those working in the TV industry.
