2014 Memphis Football Schedule

Six home dates, including a nationally-televised, Friday game against American Athletic Conference newcomer Tulsa on Halloween night, as well as nonconference road games at UCLA and Ole Miss, highlight the 2014 Memphis football scheduled announced on Tuesday.

"The way it is designed - how it starts and where the bye weeks are located - make this the most comprehensive schedule we have had during my tenure at the University of Memphis," said Director of Athletics Tom Bowen.  "I am excited for Coach (Justin) Fuente, his staff and our student-athletes."

Memphis will open the 2014 season at home in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, playing host to Austin Peay on Aug. 30. The Tigers last played Austin Peay in 2011, defeating the Governors 27-6.

The road schedule begins at the site of the BCS National Championship Game played earlier this season when the Tigers take on UCLA in the Rose Bowl on Sept. 6.  Memphis will play in the Rose Bowl for the first time since beating San Jose State 28-9 in the 1971 Pasadena Bowl. The UCLA game will mark the Tigers' first visit to Southern California since beating USC 24-10 in 1991 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

After the first of two bye weekends during the season (Sept. 13), Memphis plays host to Middle Tennessee on Sept. 20. The Tigers conclude nonconference play by renewing its series with Ole Miss in Oxford on Sept. 27.

Memphis will take on Middle Tennessee for the fifth straight year. The Ole Miss series begins again after a four-year hiatus and the Tigers will travel to Oxford for the first time since 2008.

Memphis' second season of league play in the American Athletic Conference begins with consecutive games against bowl teams. The Tigers open conference play on the road at Belk Bowl participant Cincinnati on Oct. 4. Memphis' home opener in conference play is slated for Oct. 11 against a Houston team which played in the BBVA Compass Bowl following the 2013 regular season.

After its final open date of the year (Oct. 18), the heart of conference play has the Tigers on the road three times during a four-week stretch. Memphis travels to SMU on Oct. 25 before playing host to Tulsa on Friday, Oct. 31 in a game which will be broadcast either by ESPN or ESPNU.

Memphis will begin the month of November with back-to-back road games, one in an NFL stadium and the other in a new on-campus stadium.. Memphis will play Temple Nov. 8 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia before traveling to Tulane for a Nov. 15 game iin the university's new on-campus facility, Yulman Stadium.

Memphis closes out the regular season with back-to-back home games against USF (Nov. 22) and UConn (Nov. 29).

The Tigers are already four practices into spring camp. Following this week's spring break at the University of Memphis, the team returns to the practice field on March 18. The annual Blue-Gray Spring Game is slated for Friday, April 11, at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
