Memphis vs. Ole Miss Football Game To Be Televised on ESPN
March 24, 2009
University of Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson announced that the Tigers' 2009 home football game with the Ole Miss Rebels has changed dates in order to accommodate a national television audience. ESPN will air the contest from Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Sunday, September 6, at 2:30 PM.
"I want to personally thank Pete Boone and Houston Nutt for working with us and agreeing to make this change for national television," said Johnson. "The game will draw national attention on Sunday afternoon and showcase our programs early in the season."
Memphis and Ole Miss have met on the football field 58 times in the series that dates back to the 1921 season. The two schools have opened the college football season 31 times with two of those meetings televised on ESPN, 2005 and 2006.
"This series has always drawn a great deal of attention from college football fans around the Mid-South and given the success of both teams last year, I see no reason why this contest will not be of interest for the entire nation this fall," Johnson stated.
Following the Ole Miss game, the Tigers will travel to Middle Tennessee State University on September 12th to take on the Blue Raiders before retuning to Memphis for contests with UT-Martin on the 19th and Conference USA opponent Marshall on the 26th.
