Tigers Open Second Week of Practice Indoors
March 31, 2009
MEMPHIS, TENN. - The Tiger football team opened its second week of spring practice in the turf room with the fields of the Murphy Complex drenched by rain. The squad has been splitting time at local high schools, MUS and Christian Brothers.
The offense came out first and worked for about an hour while the defense had meetings. Defensive lineman Tommy Walker saw his first action on the offensive line and is expected to continue working that position throughout the spring. The O-line was hardest hit by graduation as senior starters Philip Beliles, Brandon Pearce, Cody Stubblefield and Michael Denning have completed their eligibility, which leaves Dominik Riley as the only returning offensive lineman who started all 13 games last year. Riley has moved to center and is being challenged by junior college transfer Brad Paul. The groups switched after 12 periods and the defense worked in various position drills for an hour.
The Tigers will be off Wednesday and Thursday and will continue splitting time off campus on Friday and Saturday. The team will work out Friday afternoon at MUS, and is planning some scrimmage work on Saturday morning at CBHS.
The spring session will end with the Blue-Gray game on April 18 at noon. A site for the scrimmage will be decided on at a later date.
