Hornsey Named to CFPA Punter Award Watch List

University of Memphis punter Tom Hornsey has been named to the College Football Performance Awards 2012 CFPA Punter Award preseason watch list. Hornsey is among 44 players selected to the CFPA Punter preseason watch list that includes four others from Conference USA. The junior from Geelong, Victoria, Australia, continues to blaze through the Tigers' record book, setting records for punts (95) and yards (3,993) in a single season in 2011. The marks ranked No. 1 and No. 2 nationally. In just 24 career games, Hornsey ranks fifth in punts (175) in school history and fourth in yards (7,409). In 2011, he averaged 42 yards per punt and had 19 for 50-plus yards. Hornsey dropped 23 kicks inside the opponents' 20-yard line. Hornsey has been a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, presented to the nation's top punter, in 2010 and 2011. He earned Freshman All-America honors by the Football Writers Association of America in 2010 Hornsey enters the 2012 season leading the nation in punts per game on the NCAA's active career leader chart.
