Memphis, TN - Tavarious Davis, a wide receiver from Atlanta, Georgia, has signed a scholarship to play football for The University of Memphis. Davis had committed earlier to Clemson University but did not sign.

"We are very pleased that Tavarious has decided to attend the University of Memphis", said head coach Rip Scherer. "He has great speed and has demonstrated an ability to catch the ball in a crowd. Since we are in need of speed receivers, Tavarious, Von Webb, Darren Garcia, Devin Yarbrough and Lloyd Patterson (other Tiger signees) all have a chance to contribute this fall".

Davis, 6-1, 185, was a four year football and track letterman at Mays High School. He had 35 pass receptions for 750 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 1999 season and had a single game best four touchdown receptions against Lakeside High.

The speedy receiver, who has been timed at 4.4 in the forty yard dash, set the Mays High School record in the 400 meters with a time of 48.01.

His father Tyrone Davis played for Clemson and for the NFL New York Giants and won national championships with both teams. His cousin Terrance Davis is a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and another cousin, Willie Green, is a receiver for the Carolina Panthers.
